Car Racks

Firehouse Cycles carries many car racks for you to be able to carry your bicycles.  We stock racks from Thule & Saris car rack systems.

If I can make a suggestion on where to go to get a Hitch installed on your car it would be:

I would call for directions.  According to Larry, GPS won't get you there!  He is off the Woodhaven exit of I-95 and he knows his stuff.  The local U-Haul places are OK, but whenever they get a decent person to work there, they leave and the next guy is unknown....whereas a "Larry"....you can't go wrong.

Saris is a very innovative company building award winning racks.

Saris Bones 2

The Bones 2 rack is out most popular seller.  It carries two bicycles.  This rack fits just about every vehicle on the market.  It fits sedans, SUV's, minivans etc.  The rack is a 6 strap rear trunk fitting rack.  Fit properly, you can still access your trunk when there are no bicycles on the rack.  The rack is built from a very strong plastic design and has large oversized rubber feet so that it will not harm your vehicle.  The rack uses straps that keep the bikes affixed to the rack and also keeps them from swaying back & forth.  Very lightweight and compact, it folds down nicely to stow away when not in use.

Saris Bones 3

The Bones 3 has all the great features of the Bones 2 but holds 3 bikes.

Saris Gaurdian & Sentinel

These are inexpensive solid bike racks.  The Saris Gaurdian & Sentinel racks are here at Firehouse Cycles so that we cover the small number of vehicles that do not fall in line with the Bones racks.

Saris T-Bones Racks

These are cool.  You have to get one.  Lightweight hitch racks are not the norm.  These are great because they are lightweight and they come with their own "rackstand".  So if you have a decent size garage, you leave the base stand in the garage when you travel with the bikes.  When you get back for your travels, you remove the bikes from the rack on the car, remove the rack from the car and place it on the rackstand in your garage.  THen you load the bikes onto the rack again in your garage.  Very innovative, very smart and that's Saris in a nutshell.  Come down to the shop & check one out.  Comes in 2 bike or 3 bike models.  These racks have a full "lock system" meaning the rack locks to the car and the rack locks to the bikes.  This is good piece of mind when travelling & staying at hotels or leaving the bikes on the car when on the run.

Thule Car Racks

Thule is a well known bicycle car rack company.  We stock many of their hitch rack systems.  We do stock and are experienced in Thule's roof top racks.  Roof top models vary greatly by vehicle and it may be the case that some feature for your car may need to be ordered.  Plan ahead if you are interested in purchasing a roof top model and we will be happy to get you the necessary items as well as install them for you.

Roadway 4

This is Thule's standard 4 bike hitch rack.  This rack will fit either 1-1/4" or 2" square hitches.  Easily assembled onto the vehicle's hitch with a single large bolt.  The rack can tilt away from the vehicle to allow access into the rear cargo areas.  The bicycles need to be removed from the rack while performing this.  The "arms" of the hitch rack which hold the bicycles while in transit, can be collapsed and stowed away when no bicycles are on the vehicle.  4 large clasps hold the bicycles securely.

Ridgeline 4

This rack has the same features as the Roadway 4 above with a few nice additions.  The Ridgeline 4 rack comes with a complete locking system.  The rack can be securely locked to the vehicle and the bicycles can be securely locked to the rack.  This makes travelling with the bikes a bit easier.  It can give some peace of mind to overnight hotel stays on the road or for small trips away from the car while on foot.

The Ridgeline 4 also comes with an "anti-sway" mechanism for the bicycles.  This means that after the bikes are lifted upon the rack and secured with the top straps, the bicycle is also strapped with a side strap that will not allow the bike to swing back & forth when the vehicle moves or lurches.

Revolver 4

The Revolver 4 continues the upgrades from the Roadway & Ridgeline.  This rack only fits a 2" square hitch.  In addition to all the features of the Ridgeline above, the Revolver has the ability to completely swing away from the rear of your vehicle allowing access to the cargo area.  This can be performed WITH the bicycles still attached to the rack.  This rack is very convenient for those who travel frequently with bikes on the vehicle and want unfettered access to rear cargo (dogs, kids, beer).
