Wilier Bikes

We are proud to announce that Allesandro Ballan, riding for Team Lampre, has won the 2008 World Championship in Varese Italy!  This is the World Championship of Road Racing held once a year, each year.  His bike, the Wilier Cento Uno!  Finishing second also on a Wilier Cento Uno was teammate Damiano Cuengo.  You may remember a familiar American winning the World Championships back in 1993....Lance Armstrong.

Wilier is a niche manufacturer of high performance road racing bikes for winning European racers.  This 100+ year old Italian company--second oldest bike manufacturer in the world--focuses all its efforts on designing and manufacturing the fastest carbon road-racing bike.  Wilier has a very successful racing history as shown above.

Wilier Carbon Technology:  In its design Wilier focuses on taking advantage of the unique features of carbon to develop a frame that is light, stiff (and beautiful), yet reasonably comfortable.  Wilier performs lab tests on all frames leaving the factory, and they incorporate the advice of the champions of the Pro Tour team Lampre in their frame designs.  All this has permitted Wilier to evolve to the most advanced applications of carbon to bicycle frame technology.

The principal ingredient in the construction of Wilier bicycles is T-700 SC, which, when combined with fibers like "High Modulus" M 40J and "High Strength" T 60, and treated with an epoxy resin, provide for a fast racing frame.  In the Wilier manufacturing process the fibers are not entwined, but rather are arranged in one direction. The result is extremely light carbon, where desired performance qualities are obtained by varying the orientation of the fibers.

Wilier Monocoque frame technology:  Wilier uses the latest generation of the monocoque system for all carbon frames.  This technology allows for a lighter and better performing product with superior appearance and reliability.  The lightness of the monocoque comes from the absence of overlapping tubes and lugs or joints--the quantity of materials in the frame is therefore reduced considerably.   The elimination of potential critical points in the structure enhances the compactness and the capacity to respond to the strains of the terrain.    The Wilier monocoque frame construction permits 1) the power from the athlete to distribute itself more uniformly making the bike more reactive and minimizing the waste of muscular energy, 2) the biker to have total control on the most difficult terrain, 3) improved safety by distributing stresses throughout the frame and not concentrated in any vulnerable area, and 4) improved appearance---the frame is molded to have lines that are harmonious, smooth, and flowing.

Wilier Frame Testing:   Custom  in-house testing equipment designed by Wilier is capable of measuring the stiffness of the frames in the headset, bottom bracket, chainstays, fork and the structure as a whole.  This new and sophisticated inspection permits total certainty of compliance with the strictest safety parameters. This electronic measurement of the stiffness represents an important contribution to product development and design, as well as manufacturing.
